Carver High School

Carver High School — 1951-1970

Carver High School was built in 1951 and held its first graduation exercises in May of 1952. The Class of 1970 was the last class to graduate. Carver High students were transferred to Stephens High School and Carver became the city's new Stephens Elementary School. Carver's mascot was the King Cobra and the official school colors were black and gold.

Prior to or in conjunction with the construction of Carver High, some school closings or consolidations occurred in school districts in Ouachita County. For example, when Bethel School in Buena Vista closed, some students moved to Lafayette High and Elementary Schools in Fairview while others moved to Carver High in Stephens. Students in the Stephens area had previously attended the old Davis High School.

Carver provided educational opportunities for students from several communities in Ouachita County: Antioch, Beach Hill, Buena Vista, Cedar Grove, Good Hope, Ogemaw, Spring Hill, and Stephens, to name a few. The name was Carver High but it was a consolidated school in that it served grades one through 12.
